Graduate Program for Initial Teacher Certification

The vision of A&M-Texarkana’s Teacher Education Department is to be the region's source for teachers who inspire students, parents, administrators and fellow educators to fully live, learn and prosper.

The mission of the Education Department is to prepare effective, collaborative, creative teachers while earning a Master's degree in face-to-face, evening, Saturday and online courses.

Students will receive quality instruction from professors who take pride in supporting and preparing committed teacher candidates. See Faculty and Program Advisors. Core values of our program include preparing teachers who...

  • have a strong liberal arts background and broad world-view.
  • have a strong knowledge in their content area, pedagogy, and content pedagogy.
  • have experienced quality field experiences in early childhood through secondary classrooms.
  • understand and appreciate students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • understand and appreciate new technology, and know how to use technology appropriately.
  • are confident, organized, flexible, innovative, engaging, ethical, kind and professional.

A&M-Texarkana believes strong partnerships between the university, school districts, community colleges, region service centers and other entities best prepare candidates for successful careers in the teaching profession. Teacher certificates are issued by the Texas Education Agency after recommendation by the university. This recommendation includes verification of the completion of a state-approved program that includes successful completion of course work, field experience and certification testing.
