Students seeking teaching certification as part of an undergraduate degree apply for admission through the Teacher Preparation Program the first semester of their junior year. All freshman and sophomores should be aware of the high admission standards.
All students seeking certification in grades EC-6 receive coursework and field experiences that focus on Reading, Special Education and English as a Second Language (ESL). Coursework and field experiences prepare all EC-6 candidates to take certification tests in Special Education EC-12 or ESL beyond their initial certification.
Coursework and field experiences prepare Secondary (Grades 7-12) candidates for their initial certification. At the undergraduate or Post-Bac level, students may earn certification in the following areas:
Early Childhood (EC) through 6th Grades
- Bilingual Generalist - Spanish
- Generalist/EC-12 Special Education (Combined Programs)
- English Language Arts and Reading
- Life Sciences
- Social Studies
