Mentor Teacher

Mentor Teacher Observation of the Intern” hard copy forms in triplicate will be provided at Mentor Orientation in the fall.  Additional copies may be printed off the ACP website and copies made if needed. 

  • Mentor teacher is assigned by the school district where both the intern and mentor teacher are employed.  Mentor responsibilities include observing and providing support to the intern.
  • Mentor is required to attend Mentor Orientation/Training as scheduled by the ACP Office at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.  This orientation/training is typically held during the fall semester.
  • Mentor Duties to Intern:
    • Be available on school campus to provide support to the intern on a daily basis.
    • Observe intern during the following time periods.  Contact intern in advance to set up exact date and time.  See Color Coded Calendars.
      • September 17-21
      • October 15-19
      • November 12-16
      • January 22-26
      • February 19-23
      • April 9-13
    • Complete 3-page “Mentor Observation of Intern” forms during each observation.  Conduct post-observation conference with intern and cooperatively complete the post-observation portion of form.  Each form must list date and time of the observation and both mentor and intern must sign.  Only one observation should be completed and submitted to the Intern’s University Liaison per visit.  It is the intern’s responsibility to submit to liaison.
    • Allow intern to observe Mentor Teacher during the following time periods.  Intern will complete the “Observation of Mentor” form during each observation. 
      • September 10-14       
      • October 8-12         
      • November 5-9
      • January 15-19
      • February 12-16
      • April 2-6
