Panhandle Alternative Certification for Educators (PACE) program. PACE is an alternative teacher certification program for individuals who have a bachelor's degree or higher. PACE is a highly competitive program; not all candidates who apply will be admitted to the program. The program begins with an intensive spring and summer program of teacher training after which the PACE "intern" can be hired as a teacher-of-record in a Texas school. The program includes formal coursework and seminar training at WTAMU and culminates in Texas teacher certification for those candidates who satisfy program and state certification requirements.

TMATE is specially designed for adults who have previously earned their bachelor degree and now seek to make a career transition into the teaching profession.

Texas A&M University
The Texas A&M University Accelerate Onlinecertification program is an innovative
approach to preparing secondary teachers in the state of Texas. The program is designed to provide college graduates with a program of teacher preparation that can be completed in 12-18 months. The Accelerate Online program provides an individual the flexibility of completing teacher certification preparation through online instructional modules including a 40-hour field experience. A year-long paid internship follows in a secondary public school in Texas.
Prairie View A&M University
Designed for college graduates who meet required criteria to obtain teacher certification through plans approved by the state of Texas. It is considered an alternative route because it accomplishes certification outside the traditional university program setting.
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi
This program for achieving initial certification is designed for the student already holding a minimum bachelors degree who wishes to complete the objective in the evening, graduate program. This will allow the individual to also pursue as an optional feature the Master of Science degree either in Elementary Education or Secondary Education depending on the grade level certificate and teaching area

This alternative certification program allows students with degrees to hold teaching positions while working full-time as classroom teachers. Our program is designed to prepare qualified candidates efficiently and effectively as a means of meeting the current teacher shortage.
