You will earn a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from a University system with a renowned reputation. Your degree will encompass studies in all of the areas listed above which will allow you to work in any of the fields of mass communication, or move on to the next level of knowledge as a graduate student.

In general, you will learn about the world of mass media. You will work on polishing your verbal and writing skills. You will write new stories, public relations campaigns, feature stories, and create advertisements. You will also learn to operate a television camera and read from a teleprompter.

The first course you will take as a Mass Communication major is Introduction to Mass Communication. This course will help you learn about all of the areas of communication so that you can choose to focus on a specific area that most interests you.

Our students take classes in television production. If you choose to major in Mass Communication, you will have an opportunity to help take the TAMU-T program to the next level by becoming involved in many of the upcoming projects on the horizon. There are classes in journalism. You could help re-launch our campus newspaper or devise the best way to make it the “go-to” source for TAMU-T students. If you are interested in Public Relations, you can work for a Texarkana non-profit organization to help them create a new image while enrolled in a class called Public Relations Campaigns. (See the photo below showing a few of the students that recently completed the course.)

The LC

We even have a way to get you involved on campus. The Mass Communication Club meets throughout the academic year and competes at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention every spring. The club even won the award for Student Organization of the Year.

If you are a person who excels in writing, speaking, and you think this might be a career path for you, contact the Mass Communication Program Coordinator, Dr. Amy M. Carwile at amy.carwile@tamut.edu or 903-334-6663 for more information.
