1.         Agenda

2.         Meeting called to order at 10:01 AM by Dr. Racheotes.

3.         Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve minutes from previous meeting October 13, 2009.  Motion passed.

4.         Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Wagy to approve the Proposed Core Curriculum (Edwards). Motion passed.

5.         Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Govindaswamy to approve Course Changes: CJ 497 Special Topics: Criminal Justice Careers and Futures (Jordan). Motion was made to approve the Special Topic and offer as a Web Enhanced course. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the course syllabus, change the wording of Course Objectives to Student Learner Outcomes. Motion passed as amended.

6.         Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Course Changes: PSY 497 Special Topics: An Overview of Family Theory (Flournoy). Motion was made to approve the Special Topic and offer as a Web Based course. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the course syllabus, change the wording of Web CT to Blackboard. Motion passed as amended.

7.         Dr. Hughes moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Changes: PSY 456 Sensation and Perception (Sikorski). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Based. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the course syllabus, to add a “Communication” section that will go into detail what the instructor is looking for in the class. Motion passed as amended.

8.         Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Wagy to approve Course Changes: SPED 415 Teaching Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities (Harris). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Based. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course syllabus template and course syllabus, rephrase the “Content Outcomes”. 2) Resubmit the cover page reflecting changes made to Student Learner Outcomes. Motion passed as amended.

9.         Dr. Wagy moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Course Changes: SPED 417 Assessment of Individuals with Exceptionalities (Harris). Motion was made to approve the change of title, content and assignments to meet the needs of the new EC-6 program. The course title will now become Assessment for Achievement. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course syllabus template and course syllabus, rephrase the “Content Outcomes”. 2) The Student Learner Outcomes are not measurable as written. 3) On the cover page, under Current Course Delivery Method, the Web Enhanced Course checkbox should be checked. 4) Resubmit the cover page reflecting the changes made to Student Learner Outcomes. Motion passed as amended.

10.       Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Wagy to approve Course Changes: SPED 418 Inclusion Strategies and Techniques (Beason). Motion was made to approve the change of title, content and requirements to meet the needs of the new EC-6 program. The course title will now become Research, Trends, and Issues in Education. Motion passed.

11.       Dr. Wagy moved, seconded by Dr. Cruz-Cano to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  HIST 1302 United States History II (Perri). Motion was made to add HIST 1302 United States History II to the course inventory as a Web-based course. Motion passed.

12.       Dr. Wagy moved, seconded by Dr. Cruz-Cano to approve Course Changes: HIST 460 Cultural History of Texas (Perri). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Enhanced. Motion passed.

13.       Dr. Wagy moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: HIST 497 Special Topics: The Vietnam War (Wagy). Motion was made to approve the Special Topic. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course syllabus template, under V. Required Textbook, the book publisher name needs to be added. 2) On the cover page, the “Please check if Cross Listed with another course” checkbox needs to be unchecked. Motion passed as amended.

14.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Hughes to approve Course Changes: ART 369 Principles and Elements of Fine Arts (Lawrence). Motion was made to approve the change of course description, student learner outcomes, course content, and course requirements to include performing arts, music, and drama insuring coverage of the standards for teacher preparation. Motion passed.

15.       Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: ART 415 Impression and Post-Impression Art (Hargus). Motion was made to add ART 415 Impression and Post-Impression Art to the course inventory. This course will be cross-listed with ART 515. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the cover page, under “Course Level”, the “Graduate” checkbox needs to be unchecked. Motion passed as amended.

16.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: EDUC 331 Classroom and Behavior Management (Beason). Motion was made to add EDUC 331 to the course inventory. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the cover page and course syllabus template, change the course prefix from EDUC to ED. Motion passed as amended.

17.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Changes: RDG 340 Reading: Overview and Strategies I (Nutter). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Based. Motion passed.

18.       Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Cruz-Cano to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Aizenberg). Motion was made to add new required and elective classes in order to satisfy ABET requirements, therefore increasing the total minimum hours for the degree program from 121 to 123 sh. The committee agreed to approve the proposed degree plan reflecting the new core curriculum at this time. Any future modifications to the plan which are deemed necessary for ABET accreditation will be submitted to the Committee at a later date. Motion passed.

Agenda Items 19 & 22 were discussed together:

19/22.  Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Cruz-Cano to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Bachelor of Science in Biology with IS Minor (Allard). Motion was made to separate lecture and lab components for freshman biology/chemistry courses and include new general education curriculum due to the new core curriculum requirements. After discussion by the committee, the decision was made to approve agenda items 19 & 22 together. Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Bachelor of Science in Biology (Chemistry Minor) (Allard). Motion passed.

20.       Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Biology Minor (Allard). Motion was made to separate lecture and lab components for freshman biology courses due to the new core curriculum requirements. Motion passed.

21.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Chemistry Minor (Allard). Motion was made to separate lecture and lab components for freshman chemistry courses due to the new core curriculum requirements. Motion passed.

23.       Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Wagy to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Bachelor of Science in Biology Grades 8-12 Composite Science (Allard). Motion was made to separate lecture and lab components for freshman biology/chemistry courses and include new general education curriculum due to the new core curriculum requirements. Motion passed.

24.       Dr. Govindaswamy moved, seconded by Dr. Cruz-Cano to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Bachelor of Science in Biology Grades 8-12 Life Science (Allard). Motion was made to separate lecture and lab components for freshman biology/chemistry courses and include new general education curriculum due to the new core curriculum requirements. Motion passed.

25.       Old Business: Tabled Items from May 13, 2009:

            Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Govindaswamy to approve Course Changes: GBUS 435 The Economy of Mexico (Bashaw). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Enhanced. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the Course Syllabus, a) Delete the wording “Graduate Syllabus” from the heading. b) Under Office Hours, change the course number to GBUS 435. c) Delete all “travel hours” from the course syllabus, students do not receive credit for the travel component itself. d) The required Disability Accommodation and Academic Integrity statements need to be added. 2) On the cover page, a) Under “Add Course Delivery Method, uncheck Web Based box and check Web Enhanced. b) Under “Cross Listed with another course”, add GBUS 535 The Economy of Mexico since this course will be cross-listed. Motion passed as amended.

Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Wagy to approve Course Changes: GBUS 430 The Culture of Mexico (Bashaw). Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web Enhanced. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the Course Syllabus, a) Under Course Number, change the course number to GBUS 430. b) Delete all “travel hours” from the course syllabus, students do not receive credit for the travel component itself. c) The required Disability Accommodation and Academic Integrity statements need to be added. 2) On the cover page, a) Under “Add Course Delivery Method, uncheck Web Based box and check Web Enhanced. b) Under “Cross Listed with another course”, add GBUS 530 The Culture of Mexico since this course will be cross-listed. Motion passed as amended.

 

26.       Other Business:  1)   Dr. Wagy made a motion, seconded by Dr. Govindaswamy to shorten the length of course syllabi that are submitted to the committee for approval to 6 pages.

                                       2)   It was agreed upon that only the course syllabus template needed to be submitted and not the entire course syllabi.

                                       3)   It was decided that Kelly Bennett, Recording Secretary, would make an original hard copy of the agenda packet for each
                              meeting and give to the college secretary in each of the Colleges to make a copy for their faculty representatives and place
                              them in their mailboxes.
