Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Minutes

1.         Agenda

2.         Meeting called to order at 1:34 PM by Dr. Racheotes. 

3.         Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve minutes from previous meeting November 12, 2008.  Motion passed.

4.         Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: HSCI 401 Computers for the Healthcare Professional (Kincaid).  Motion was made to add HSCI 401 to the course inventory.  The following recommendations were made:  1) Change the word “Computers” in the course title to “Technology” to become effective the next semester the course will be taught.  2) Add the statement that the course will be a minimum of 51% face to face instruction and 49% online teaching under the Teaching Methods section on syllabus.  Motion passed.

5.         Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve Course Inventory Change:  NURS 302 Health Assessment across the Lifespan (Batchen).  Motion was made to request the change of course delivery system to include Web-Based.  The following recommendation was made:  1) On the cover page, under Course Delivery Method, the face to face and Web-Enhanced checkbox need to be checked.  Motion passed.

6.         Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Sikorski).  Motion was made to change the requirement from MATH 453 Statistics to PSY 401 Psychology Statistics.  Motion passed.

7.         Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Syllabus Changes:  MIS 332 VBA Programming with Excel (McDonald).  Motion was made to offer the course with two grading schemes options.  During the first class meeting, students will be able to select either a Pass/Fail grading scheme or the traditional A to F grading scheme.  The following recommendations were made:  1) On the cover page, under Semester these changes are to be implemented, it should read January 2009, not 2008.  2)  Also on the cover page, under Course Evaluation Scheme, correct the spelling on the word “Pass”.  Motion passed.

8.         Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 315 Washington DC Civic Engagement Field Study (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 315 to the course inventory.  Motion passed.

9.         Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Deletion:  BSC 436 Mammalogy and BSC 438 Ichthyology (Allard).  Motion was made to delete BSC 436 Mammalogy and BSC 438 Ichthyology from the course inventory.  Motion passed.

10.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (Previously entitled Bachelor of Science in Computer & Information Sciences) (D. Green).  Motion was made to change the program from Computer Information Sciences to Computer Science which would change the prefix from CIS to CS.

Motion passed.

11.       Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve Course Inventory Change:  Changing all course prefixes from CIS to CS (D. Green).  Motion was made to change all CIS (Computer Information Sciences) course prefixes to CS (Computer Science) to reflect the program name change.  Motion passed.

 12.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  EE 305 Data Structures – Cross Listed Course (CS 305 Data Structures) (D. Green).  Motion was made to cross list EE 305 with CS 305 Data Structures.  Motion passed.

 13.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  EE 310 Algorithm Analysis – Cross Listed Course (CS 310 Analysis of Algorithms) (D. Green).  Motion was made to cross list EE 310 with CS 310 Analysis of Algorithms.  Motion passed.

14.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  EE 321 Digital Logic – Cross Listed Course (CS 320 Digital Logic) (D. Green).  Motion was made to cross list EE 321 with CS 320 Digital Logic.  Motion passed.

15.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  EE 340 Computer Architecture – Cross Listed Course (CS 340 Computer Architecture) (D. Green).  Motion was made to cross list EE 340 with

CS 340 Computer Architecture.  Motion passed.

16.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  EE 390 Ethics in Technology – Cross Listed Course (CS 390 Ethics in Technology) (D. Green).  Motion was made to cross list EE 390 with CS 390 Ethics in Technology.  Motion passed.

17.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science - Interdisciplinary Studies EC-4 Generalist (NTCC) (Ballard).  Motion was to delete PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology from the Additional Requirements on the degree plan and to change

PHED 1238 to PHED 2301 which would lower the total hours for the degree from 131 to 129 hours.  Motion passed.

18.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science - Interdisciplinary Studies EC-4 Generalist (Hallsville) (Ballard).  Motion was to delete KINE 1238 from the Additional Requirements on the degree plan and to accept PHED 2301 or TECA 1318 which would increase the total hours for the degree from 128 to 129 hours.  Motion passed.

 19.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science (BS) - Interdisciplinary Studies EC-4 Generalist with Special Education Certification (NTCC) (Ballard).  Motion was to delete PSYC 2301 Introduction to Psychology from the Additional Requirements on the degree plan and to change PHED 1238 to PHED 2301 which would lower the total hours for the degree from 137 to 135 hours.  Motion passed.

 20.       Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to table Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  SPAN 497 Topic:  Spanish Language and Culture for teachers (Rincon).  Motion was made to add this course to the course inventory.  Discussion ensued to table the motion with the following recommendations:  1) On the cover page, under Course Type, the elective checkbox should be checked.  2) On the course syllabus, several grammatical errors were found.  Motion tabled.

21.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: JOUR 420 Advanced Photojournalism (Overlock).  Motion was made to add JOUR 420 Advanced Photojournalism to the course inventory.  The following recommendations were made:  1) A breakdown of the grading scale is needed.  2) Minor formatting changes need to be made to the course syllabus.  Motion passed as amended.

22.       Web-Based Course Syllabus components (Fowler).  It was decided by the members to discuss the new template with their college faculty members to get input.

23.       Old Business:  None

24.       Other Business:  The meeting dates for the Spring 2009 semester were set.  The meetings will take place the 2nd Wednesday of each month beginning in February 2009 through May 2009.  The time will remain at 1:30 pm.
