Undergraduate Curriculum Committee Minutes

1.         Agenda

2.         Meeting called to order at 2:59 PM by Dr. Racheotes. 

3.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve minutes from previous meeting May 14, 2008.  Motion passed

4.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Political Science (Bugh).  Motion was made to delete PSCI 340, PSCI 341, PSCI 342, PSCI 343, PSCI 344, PSCI 345, PSCI 346, PSCI 347, PSCI 462 and PSCI 470 from required courses and add PSCI 335, PSCI 440, PSCI 444, PSCI 445 and PSCI 455 to required courses.  Also add PSCI 310 or PSCI 320 option.  Motion passed

5.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 455 Political Behavior (Bugh).  Motion was made to add

            PSCI 455 to the course inventory.  Discussion ensued that the following changes need to be made:  1) On the cover page, under Course Delivery Method, the Web-Based checkbox does not need to be checked.  2) On the course syllabus, the university required Disability Accommodations and Academic Honesty statements are duplicated and are not consistent with the required wording.  Dr. Bugh (Mangum) will resubmit the cover page and syllabus to reflect the changes necessary.  Motion passed as amended

6.         Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to table Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 445 Public Opinion (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 445 to the course inventory.  Discussion ensued that the following changes need to be made:  1) On the course syllabus, the university required Disability Accommodations and Academic Honesty statements are duplicated and are not consistent with the required wording. 

            2) Syllabus does not reflect that the course will be offered as Web-Based.  Syllabus needs clarification as to when class assignments, papers, etc are due.  The decision was made that the VPAA’s office will form a committee to establish a template for Web based courses to be placed on the website.  Dr. Bugh (Mangum) will resubmit the syllabus to be voted on by the UCC committee electronically.  Motion Tabled

7.         Old Business: 

            Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve Course Syllabus Changes:  COMM 350 Advanced Technological Communications (Aworuwa).  The original motion was to request the change of course delivery system to include Web-Enhanced.    Previous discussion was pertaining to the syllabus.  There were several questions that Dr. Aworuwa needed to address.  It was suggested she meet with Dr. Beason to receive suggestions for rewriting syllabus.  Dr. Aworuwa resubmitted the syllabus.  Motion Passed
