2. Meeting called to order at 1:32 PM by Dr. Racheotes.

3. Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve minutes from previous meeting April 8, 2009. Motion passed.

4. Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate: BSC 490/CHEM 490 Introduction to Biotechnology (Alam). Motion was made to add BSC 490/CHEM 490 as a cross-listed course to the course inventory. Motion passed.

5. Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve Course Changes: LEAD 414 Organizational Training and Development (G. Green).
Motion was made to delete the current prerequisite of senior standing. Motion passed.

6. Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve Course Changes: SPED 410 Introduction to Individuals with Exceptionalities (Harris). Motion was made to rename this course to Characteristics of Diverse Learners and edit the curriculum content including course description, student learner outcomes, course requirements & evaluation and adding web enhanced to the course delivery method. The changes in this course are to specifically address the new EC-6 certification and ESL certification. Specifically, the change of course name represents the new paradigm, from which this course will be taught. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the cover page, under Add Course Delivery Method, the Web Enhanced checkbox need to be checked and not the Web Based Course checkbox. 2) On the syllabus template, the required university Disability Accommodations and Academic Honesty statements were omitted. Dr. Harris will resubmit the cover page and syllabus template reflecting the changes recommended. Motion passed with corrections.

7. Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program: Criminal Justice (Okereke). Motion was to revise the Criminal Justice degree plan to include more choices in the Social Sciences & Fine Arts area. The following recommendation was made: 1) On the cover page, under Justification, it needs to reflect the areas in which are affected in the revised degree plan. Dr. Okereke will resubmit the cover page. Motion passed with corrections.

8 Approval of the Core Curriculum Course Syllabi for Downward Expansion (Wagy).

The committee recommended that 1) A “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate” cover page be submitted with each of the following core curriculum course syllabi below. 2) On the cover page, under Course Delivery Method, the face to face and web enhanced checkboxes need to be checked. By checking the Web Enhanced checkbox now, it will eliminate having to submit your syllabus to the committee at a future meeting to add the Web Enhanced option. 3) The cover page will need to be signed by the person submitting the syllabus and also the Dean of the College.

Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve ARTS 130 (ARTS 1301) Introduction to Art Appreciation (Wagy). Motion was made to add ARTS 130 (ARTS 1301) Introduction to Art Appreciation to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Objectives, delete the word “Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Student Learner Outcomes are to be changed to measurable outcomes. 3) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. 4) On the cover page, under Course Delivery Method, the face to face and web enhanced checkboxes need to be checked. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve BCIS 135 (BCIS 1305) Business Computer Applications (Wagy). Motion was made to add BCIS 135 (BCIS 1305) Business Computer Applications to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course syllabus, under Course Objectives, delete the words “Course Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve BSC 101 (BIOL 1406) Principles of Biology (Wagy). Motion was made to add BSC 101 (BIOL 1406) Principles of Biology to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Objectives, delete the word “Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Student Learner Outcomes are to be changed to measurable outcomes. 3) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve BSC 200 (BIOL 2406) Principles of Environmental Science (Wagy). Motion was made to add BSC 200 (BIOL 2406) Principles of Environmental Science to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Objectives, delete the word “Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) On the course template, under XIII Faculty Requirement, change the wording to “A PHD in Environmental Sciences preferred.” 3) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve CHEM 101 (CHEM 1411) Chemistry I (Wagy). Motion was made to add CHEM 101 (CHEM 1411) Chemistry I to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Objectives, delete the word “Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve DRAM 101 (DRAM 1310) Introduction to Drama (Wagy). Motion was made to add DRAM 101 (DRAM 1310) Introduction to Drama to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) Student Learner Outcomes are to be changed to measurable outcomes. 2) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve ECON 231 (ECON 2301) Principles of Macroeconomics (Wagy). Motion was made to add ECON 231 (ECON 2301) Principles of Macroeconomics to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course syllabus, under Course Objectives, delete the words “Course Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Kincaid to approve ENG 200 (ENGL 2328) Introduction to Literature (Wagy). Motion was made to add ENG 200 (ENGL 2328) Introduction to Literature to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Dr. Brumm moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve GEOG 103 (GEOG 1303) World Regional Geography (Wagy). Motion was made to add GEOG 103 (GEOG 1303) World Regional Geography to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve GEOL 101 (GEOL 1405) Principles of Environmental Geology (Wagy). Motion was made to add GEOL 101 (GEOL 1405) Principles of Environmental Geology to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Geology Objectives, delete the words “Geology Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve HIST 101 (HIST 1301) United States History to 1877 (Wagy). Motion was made to add HIST 101 (HIST 1301) United States History to 1877 to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Dr. Kincaid moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve MATH 213 (MATH 2413) Calculus I (Wagy). Motion was made to add MATH 213 (MATH 2413) Calculus I to the course inventory. Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve MUSI 130 (MUSI 1306) Music Appreciation (Wagy). Motion was made to add MUSI 130 (MUSI 1306) Music Appreciation to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Fowler to approve PHIL 130 (PHIL 1301) Introduction to Philosophy (Wagy). Motion was made to add PHIL 130 (PHIL 1301) Introduction to Philosophy to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, add the words “Students will…” right behind the Student Learner Outcomes title (VI.). 2) Take out the words “Students will” in the bulleted Student Learner Outcomes below the title. 3) Under the IX. Means of Evaluation:, change the percentages on the chart below to points. 3) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Motion passed with corrections.

Dr. Fowler moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve PSCI 101 (GOVT 2305) Introduction to American Politics (Wagy). Motion was made to add PSCI 101 (GOVT 2305) Introduction to American Politics to the course inventory. The following recommendations were made: 1) On the course template, under VI. Objectives, delete the word “Objectives” and add Student Learner Outcomes. 2) Student Learner Outcomes are to be changed to measurable outcomes. 3) Submit a cover page “Course Inventory Add/Reinstate”. Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Brumm to approve SPCH 130 (SPCH 1315) Introduction to Public Speaking (Wagy). Motion was made to add SPCH 130 (SPCH 1315) Introduction to Public Speaking to the course inventory. Motion passed.

9. Old Business: Tabled Items from April 8, 2009:

Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to table Course Changes: GBUS 435 The Economy of Mexico and Course Changes: GBUS 430 The Culture of Mexico (Boger). Decision was made by the Committee to table both of these items together for the following reasons: 1) Both syllabi need a clear delineation of how the travel component is to be awarded academic time and credit. 2) The Committee provided detailed feedback to Dr. Boger concerning both grading criteria and grading matrix. Drs. Beason and Fowler indicated they would be willing to provide assistance in developing student learner objectives. Motion tabled.

10. New Business: 1) By a unanimous vote, Dr. Peter Racheotes was re-elected to serve as the Chair of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. It was decided that the clerical support would come from another College. 2) Dr. Racheotes will email the members at the first of June about possible meeting dates for the June 2009 meeting. 3) Dr. Gary Bugh will replace Dr. Tom Gandy as the Liberal Arts faculty representative beginning August 2009 and the STEM College representative will be Dr. Raul Cruz-Cano.
