1.         Agenda

2.         Meeting called to order at 2:00 PM by Dr. Racheotes. 

3.         Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve minutes from previous meeting October 10, 2007.  Motion passed

 

4.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to table Course Syllabus Changes:  CJ 485 Criminal Justice Seminar (Okereke).  Request to change the course delivery system to Web-Based.  Discussion ensued that 1) The justification on each request needed to reflect the rational to change the delivery to Web-Based. 2) The course syllabus did not reflect that the course would be offered as Web-Based.  3)  The Disability and Academic Dishonesty statement in the course syllabus needed to be consistent with standard format.  4) The statement “Understand the criminal justice system very well” needs to be clarified.  5) The Classroom Courtesy paragraph regarding cell phones and beepers needs to be deleted from the course syllabus since the course will be offered as Web-Based.   Motion to Table passed.    

 

5.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to table Course Syllabus Changes: CJ/SOC 325 Crime and Delinquency (Okereke).  Request to change the course delivery system to Web-Based.  Discussion ensued that 1) The justification on each request needed to reflect the rational to change the delivery to Web-Based. 2) The course syllabus did not reflect that the course would be offered as Web-Based.  3)  The Disability and Academic Dishonesty statement in the course syllabus needed to be consistent with standard format.  4) The Classroom Courtesy paragraph regarding cell phones and beepers needs to be deleted from the course syllabus since the course will be offered as Web-Based.   Motion to Table passed.    

 

6.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to table Course Syllabus Changes:  CJ/SOC 380 Cultural and Ethnic Minorities (Okereke).  Request to change the course delivery system to Web-Based.  Discussion ensued that 1) The justification on each request needed to reflect the rational to change the delivery to Web-Based. 2) The course syllabus did not reflect that the course would be offered as Web-Based.  3)  The Disability and Academic Dishonesty statement in the course syllabus needed to be consistent with standard format.  4) The Classroom Courtesy paragraph regarding cell phones and beepers needs to be deleted from the course syllabus since the course will be offered as Web-Based.   Motion to Table passed.    

 

7.         Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (Peck).  Motion was made to delete MGT 395 from the list of possible courses and delete PSY 320 from other requirements.  The Proposed Degree plan needs to be updated to reflect the deletion of MGT 395.  Motion Passed as Amended

 

8.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to table Course Inventory Change:  IS 410 Foundations of Leadership (Ballard).  Motion was made to change IS 410 from Interdisciplinary prefix to LDRS prefix.  Dr. Beason inquired whether Texas A&M University-Texarkana has a LDRS prefix in the course inventory.  Dr. Lotven excused herself to inquire in the Admissions office about the status of the LDRS prefix.  Upon returning, she informed the committee that at this time, our course inventory does not have a LDRS prefix.  Motion to Table Passed

 

9.         Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to table Course Inventory Change:  IS 415 Organizational Development & Change (Ballard) Motion was made to change IS 415 from Interdisciplinary prefix to LDRS prefix.  Dr. Beason inquired whether Texas A&M University-Texarkana has a LDRS prefix in the course inventory.  Dr. Lotven excused herself to inquire in the Admissions office about the status of the LDRS prefix.  Upon returning, she informed the committee that at this time, our course inventory does not have a LDRS prefix.  Motion to Table Passed

 

10.       Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to table Inventory Change:  IS 420 Community Leadership (Ballard).  Motion was made to change IS 420 from Interdisciplinary prefix to LDRS prefix.  Dr. Beason inquired whether Texas A&M University-Texarkana has a LDRS prefix in the course inventory.  Dr. Lotven excused herself to inquire in the Admissions office about the status of the LDRS prefix.  Upon returning, she informed the committee that at this time, our course inventory does not have a LDRS prefix.  Motion to Table Passed

 

11.       Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  MATH 415 Numerical Analysis (Kern).  Motion was made to add MATH 415 to the course inventory.  This course is a standard course in undergraduate mathematics programs.  It is a requirement for computer science majors and a recommended elective for anyone interested in using computers to obtain solutions to mathematical problems.  Motion Passed

 

12.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Gandy to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 320 Introduction to Constitution Law (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 320 to the course inventory.  This is a course for the new Political Science bachelor’s degree.  Dr. Beason inquired about the 1984 textbook edition stated in the course syllabus for this course.  Discussion ensued whether or not a newer edition was available and if not, a justification should be added to the syllabus letting the students know that it is a classic book.  Motion Passed

 

13.       Dr. Beason moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 395 Methods of Political Science Research (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 395 to the course inventory.  This is a course for the new Political Science bachelor’s degree.  Motion Passed

 

14.       Dr. Gandy moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 410 American Political Theory (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 410 to the course inventory.  This is a course for the new Political Science bachelor’s degree.  Motion Passed

 

15.       Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Beason to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 464 Congress (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 464 to the course inventory.  This is a required course for the new Political Science bachelor’s degree.  Motion Passed

 

16.       Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  PSCI 465 The Executive (Bugh).  Motion was made to add PSCI 465 to the course inventory.  This is a required course for the new Political Science bachelor’s degree.  Motion Passed

 

17.       Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  CIS 367 Software Engineering (Green).  Motion was made to add

CIS 367 to the course inventory.  This course will offer a wide perspective on software development, including:  requirements analysis, technical design, estimating, programming tools style, testing and quality, and management issues.  Motion Passed

 

18.       Dr. Haque moved, seconded by Dr. Garick to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  BS in Computer Information Sciences (Green).  Request was made to add CIS 440 as an elective while removing MIS 465 and MIS 430 as electives and removing MIS 367 as a required course for the BSCIS degree.  Motion Passed

 

            Old Business:

 

19.       Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve Course Syllabus Changes:  NURS 407 Quality Issues and Responsibilities in Professional Nursing Practice (Kincaid).  The original motion was to change the course delivery system to Web-Enhanced.  This item was previously tabled because the Disability & Academic Dishonesty statement in the course syllabus was not consistent with other syllabi. Course syllabus was resubmitted and approved by the committee.  Motion Passed

 

            Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve Changes to Existing Undergraduate Program:  Political Science (Bugh).  Motion was made to add

PSCI 395 to the course inventory and the deletion of PSCI 350.  Motion Passed

 

            Dr. Garick moved, seconded by Dr. Haque to approve Course Inventory Add/Reinstate:  COMM 420 Case Studies in Advertising (Overlock).  Motion was to add COMM 420 to the course inventory.  The course will be an important component to the advertising/public relations area of the mass communication degree.  It was discussed that the Disability & Academic Dishonesty statement was not on the course syllabus.  Syllabus will be corrected and resubmitted.  Motion Passed as Amended
