Distance Education Student Grievence Information
Information about students rights to file a complaint against an institution when state and/or licensure requirements are not followed or regarding the loss of tuition and fees as a result of unfair business practices.
Reauthorization of the Higher Education Act includes regulations regarding the delivery of distance education to out-of-state residents. The United States Department of Education (USDOE) requires that institutions comply with any applicable state approval or licensure requirements in each state to which distance education instruction is delivered. Students have the right to file a complaint against an institution when these requirements are not followed or regarding the loss of tuition and fees as a result of an unfair business practice. Institutions must provide current and prospective students with contact information for filing complaints with its accrediting body and the appropriate state agency for handling complaints in a student’s state.
Texas A&M University-Texarkana is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS) to award the bachelor's and master's degrees.
If you have a complaint about A&M-Texarkana's distance education programs, contact the appropriate authority in your state of residence. Below is a list of available complaint process information for all states. The State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO) also maintains an up-to-date list of this contact information.
You may also file a complaint with Texas A&M University-Texarkana regional accrediting agency, SACS. Complete the Commission’s Complaint Form and send two print copies to the President, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097.
In most cases, these complaint procedures require the student to exhaust all complaint avenues internal to the institution before a grievance can be filed at the State or accrediting agency level. A&M-Texarkana students are advised to attempt to resolve complaints with the A&M-Texarkana faculty and administration.
