Eagle Express

  The Recruitment Office at Texas A&M University-Texarkana is proud to announce the acquisition of a new trailer for recruiting purposes.  The 42 foot trailer has been named the Eagle Express and will travel across the University service area promoting higher education and A&M-Texarkana.  The trailer was obtained through a grant awarded from the Texas Pioneer Foundation.  We will work closely with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the College for All Texans to provide college related information and assistance to students and their families.   One of the goals of the statewide Closing the Gaps initiative is to increase the overall Texas higher education participation rate by adding 630,000 more students by the year 2015. 

    The Eagle Express is totally equipped with air-conditioning/ heating by a gasoline powered generator.  The trailer has 17 laptop computers and a satellite for connection to the Internet.  This mobile unit will visit high schools, community colleges, community festivals and events, and other avenues to reach under represented populations that may not have the knowledge and means to apply to the University.  The targeted audiences are those that may not likely attend traditional college day and night programs.  There are many economically disadvantaged students who do not have college going traditions in their families.  The Eagle Express will provide a setting in which parents and students can feel comfortable in asking questions and receiving help in the initial process of college preparation.  We will provide access to important resources in college admissions as well as scholarship and financial aid applications.   A “career cruising” program will also be available for students as a tool for career exploration and to determine the education required for each career.  The online questionnaire will help students match careers to their interests. Further exploration will provide education requirements; specify colleges that offer certain degrees, and the expected wages for the chosen occupations.  A&M-Texarkana is committed to becoming a distinguished comprehensive regional university.
