Web Design Specialist

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

      To assist in providing the university with: facilities for efficient and productive use of web based technology for instruction, office automation, and research; maintenance of records as required; input and recommendations to meet defined technology needs; and to maintenance and troubleshooting of  university web services to insure maximum utilization.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Assist with maintenance of university website and all other web related functions.  This includes online courses (WebCT), faculty and staff web pages, faculty and staff web products (Web for Students and Web for Faculty).

 

  1. Assists with maintenance of web hardware and software.

 

  1. Assists with maintenance of Internet facilities for connectivity with external networks (servers for electronic-web based-mail, listservs, etc.).

 

  1. Provides input for specifications and recommendations in planning, acquisition and implementation of new computer software and hardware installations and systems with regard to web based functions.

 

  1. Assist with implementation of new computer software and hardware installations and systems with regard to the world wide web.

 

  1. Assists with troubleshooting, diagnosing and solving problems related to use of university web based computing hardware and software.

 

  1. Assist with design, creation, and maintenance of databases for use on university website.

 

  1. Instructs faculty and staff individually with utilization of computing software and hardware as assigned.

 

  1. Assists with development and maintenance of facilities and infrastructure for the publicly accessible University presence on the Internet.

 

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Marginal Functions will vary with the specific assignment and depend on the particular unit or function for which the person is responsible.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

      Minimum Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, or related field, OR minimum four years in related position

 

      Qualifications

 

Must have operational/technical knowledge of computer operating systems and software

Must have documented experience with network administration (Linux, Windows NT).

Must have tangible or demonstrable evidence of experience with writing HTML and related languages

Must have experience with Microsoft Office applications

Must have ability to work with minimum supervision

Must be able to work effectively and productively with personnel in a variety of areas

Must possess good interpersonal skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Experience with programming, scripting languages for the web (PHP, Perl, ASP)

Experience with databases (MySQL, Oracle etc)

Experience with graphics programs (Photoshop etc.)

CompTia certification(s)

Microsoft certification(s)

 

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL

 

      None

 

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENT

      Physical Demands:  Normal office environment

 

      Activities:  Normal office routine

 

      Lifting:  Lifting of computer hardware, peripherals, and other office equipment

 

      Vision:  Normal or corrected

 

      Mental Demands:  High to deal with numerous projects and sensitive issues effectively and       simultaneously.

 

      Environmental:  Pleasant working conditions

 

      Benefits: Monthly salary of $2883.33; health insurance, retirement, vacation, annual holidays, sick leave
