Guests Present: Dr. Rosanne Stripling, VPAA
Meeting called to order by Dr. Garick at 12:18 PM.
Dr. Marty Harris (Chair, Faculty Affairs Committee) presented her committee’s recommendation concerning how decisions about program reviews and course proposals and/or revisions should be made. Basically, the committee recommended that all program reviews and course proposals and/or revisions approved by either the Graduate Council or Undergraduate Curriculum Committee be reviewed by the Faculty Senate before they are sent to the VPAA. Discussions that followed centered on practical and bureaucratic implications of the recommendation. In recognition of those concerns, Dr. Harris made the following motion: The process of program review and course proposals and/or revisions shall end with the approval of the Graduate Council or the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Motion was seconded by Dr. Reavis. During discussion, it was pointed out that the Faculty Senate Representatives on the Graduate Council or the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee have the responsibility of taking faculty concerns to these bodies to inform their deliberations on the proposals. Five members voted for the motion; 3 members voted against it; and 2 members abstained. Motion carried.
Motion for adjournment was made by Dr. McCallum. Motion was seconded by Dr. Hamilton. Meeting adjourned at 1:25 PM. Next meeting was set for March 10, 2008 at 12:15 PM. The Faculty Senate President (Dr. Garick) shall inform members of the room at a later date.
Minutes recorded by: Godpower O. Okereke, Faculty Senate Secretary and Parliamentarian.
