FACULTY SENATE Texas A&M University-Texarkana December 15, 2003
Quorum established with 26 present.
Minutes of November 17,2003 approved.
Old Business: Discussed the tentative plans presented on October 20, 2003, to offer a B.A.A.S. degree via distance education. Dr. Racheotes reported the action of the Curriculum Committee and the assurance of Dr. Ballard to modify courses as needed. A motion for approval of the proposed program was made by Dr. Allard, seconded by Dr.Garick and passed 17 to 3 with 5 abstentions.
Reports: Dr. Stripling indicated that she would no longer serve as president; therefore, education faculty will elect another representative to serve for four months.
Dr. Stripling outlined the process for electing members of the Executive Committee for 2004-2005.
A motion was made to accept the proposed process by Dr. Ballard, seconded by Dr. Garick and passed unanimously. There is no limitation on the number of terms a representative may serve.
Announcements: Dr. Johnson, Vice President for Academic Affairs, endorsed o pursue tenure on less than full-time appointment has been approved.
Denise Neil will serve as Faculty Senate Parliamentarian, Dr. Racheotes will serve as the Faculty Senate representative to the Curriculum Committee, Tom Wagy will serve on the Graduate Council to be established in the spring, and Dr. Ballard will serve as Academic Affairs Chairperson for the rest of the year.
The University mace is expected to arrive in time for May Commencement.
Dr. Hensley endorsed the Senate’s participation in a newly established System Faculty Senate Council. Dr. Racheotes and either Prof. Neill or Dr. Brumm, will attend meetings twice during the academic year to represent the TAMU-T Faculty Senate.
