Master Technology Teacher (MTT) Certification

Program Information
The Master Technology Teacher (MTT) Certification program is designed for EC-12
teachers who wish to become facilitators and mentors to both teachers and
students in the use of technology for teaching and learning. The MTT at Texas A&M
University-Texarkana (TAMU-T) is approved by the Texas Higher Education
Coordinating Board (THECB) and State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). Persons interested in this program must meet
admission
criteria for a
graduate program established by A&M-Texarkana, since
courses taken for the MTT certification can be applied towards a master's degree
program. Condition of retention in the program includes maintaining a minimum of B
in all courses in the MTT program.
To be eligible for certification, prospective MTT candidates must
successfully complete a program of instruction consisting of the following 24
semester hours of coursework:
ITED 502 – Designing Instruction for the 21st Century Learner
ITED 503 – Instructional Delivery for Diverse Learners
ITED 511 –Microcomputer-based Technologies
ITED 512 – Assessment and Evaluation of Technology-based Instruction and
Learning
ITED 521 – Instructional Video and Multimedia Production and Utilization
ITED 523 Web-based Instruction and Distance Learning
ITED 532 – Leadership in Educational Technology
SPED 520 – Technology for Inclusion
In
addition to completing the coursework, MTT candidates must pass the Texas
Examination for Master Teachers (TExMaT) administered through the
State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
before they can be issued a license. Procedure for applying to take the
TExMaT is available at
http://www.mrt.nesinc.com/.
Licensure information is
also available at SBEC web site.
Program
Organization
Courses will be taught in face-to-face classroom
instruction using hands-on approach and supplemented by web-based activities. Classes will be scheduled at evenings and weekends (if necessary) to accommodate students’ work schedules.
Course offerings will be frequent to allow students to take classes in any sequence and still complete the program in a reasonable time frame. Given that most students work, a reasonable time frame estimated for completing the program is 12 to 18 months.
