A&M-Texarkana Celebrates Homecoming

Texas A&M University-Texarkana rounded out its 2017 Homecoming Week with a men’s soccer 1-0 win over the Louisana State University Alexandria Generals and a 2-2 tie for the women’s team.

Alex Claiborne, a senior biology major from Marshall, Texas, and Ashley Bainton, a senior psychology major and captain of the women’s soccer team from Los Angeles, California, were crowned homecoming king and queen between the two games.

Members of the court included Sammy Hogan, a senior biology major from Amarillo, Texas, Matt Barrett, a junior electrical engineering major from Reno, Nevada, Daniel Collinsworth, a junior electrical engineering and mathematics major from Burleson, Texas, Brenda Awuah, a senior biology major from Texarkana, Texas, Alana Briley, a senior biology major from Texarkana, Texas, Sydney Steed, a senior early childhood major from Texarkana, Texas, and Daejia Lynch, a junior kinesiology major from Duncanville, Texas, who was unable to attend the ceremony as she was competing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup nationals in Rome, Georgia.

Last year’s king Brian Huynh and queen Stephanie Trujillo, both of Texarkana, Texas, reigned over the game prior to the ceremony.

Earlier in the day, students, alumni and friends of the university enjoyed the Fourth Annual Eagle Chili Fest and Tailgate.

Team Chili Chili Bang Bang, comprised of faculty and staff from the College of Arts, Sciences and Education, took first place, the People’s Choice Award and bragging rights for the next year.

Second place went to Finishmaster of Texarkana and third place went to Chef Ross Morrill of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
