Scholarship Policy
Unless the individual scholarship policy states otherwise, and in order for an academic scholarship recipient to retain any disbursement of his/her award, the
student must maintain all criteria for the scholarship for at least 60% of the scholarship award period per regular semester (Fall/Spring), and at least 60%
of the scholarship award period for summer terms. Should the student fail to meet all criteria during this time, the student will be required to repay the
scholarship award prior to the first class day of the next semester. The student must also satisfactorily complete the minimum number of hours required
by the scholarship program each semester in order to receive the second disbursement or any remaining scholarship funds for the subsequent semester.
All scholarship recipients awarded through the A&M-Texarkana Enrollment Management Office are required to be degree-seeking or certificate seeking and have a degree plan on file. Freshman are excluded.
Effective Fall 2010: All former/continuing students applying for scholarships through the Enrollment Management Office, MUST complete the “FAFSA4Caster”, print the summary page, and return it to the Enrollment Management Office by the scholarship deadline.
All students receiving the following awards must complete the 2010-2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by July 15, 2010. (Ideally this should be completed each year for the following Fall as soon as your tax forms are completed): New Freshman Incentive Award, New Eagle Incentive Award, New Transfer Incentive Award, or Former/Continuing Student Incentive Award.
The student's combination of gift-aid from other sources may not exceed the student's New Freshman Incentive Award, New Eagle Incentive Award, New Transfer Student Incentive Award or Former/Continuing Student Incentive Award.
Effective Summer 2010: Out-of-state students (non-Texas Residents) who enroll in web-only classes will be required to register for a minimum of 12 semester credit hours in order to receive scholarships through the Enrollment Management Office.
Should the student fail to repay the scholarship award, all university records will be tagged and the student will be unable to obtain transcripts or register with A&M-Texarkana until the debt has been paid.
University academic scholarship recipients may also pursue "need-based" financial aid, however, the student’s total award may not exceed the student’s "financial need" as determined by the Federal Need Analysis. In some cases, a student’s financial aid award must be reduced or cancelled in order for the student to receive the scholarship.
If the student receiving the Albert Loftin Scholarship does not enroll at A&M-Texarkana or does not remain enrolled as a full-time student, the
scholarship becomes an interest-bearing note. The first payment will be due October 1st, with compound interest accruing at 10% effective
September 1st. The total amount of Loftin Scholarship funds received to date must then be repaid within twelve (12) months. (EXCEPTION: Student teaching
will be considered as full-time for scholarship purposes only).
Any
student who receives a "renewable" scholarship must re-apply for the scholarship each year. Scholarship applications are available on-line and must be completed and submitted by the published deadline. If the recipient fails to meet the minimum scholarship requirements
at any point in time, the scholarship may not be renewed. However, the student may re-apply for the same scholarship for the next year and will be considered
as all other applicants for the award. Note: Renewable scholarships are contingent upon the availability of funds for the next award year.
All
academic scholarship recipients are REQUIRED to submit a "letter of appreciation" to the Enrollment Management Office with their scholarship award letter. (EXCLUDING some Institutional Scholarships.)These letters will then be forwarded to the appropriate donor or club with an
announcement letter of the recipient/s.
A student who wishes to appeal this ruling on the basis of "extenuating circumstances" must do so in writing to the Enrollment Management Office. The appeal decision will be made by the Scholarship Committee, and the student will be notified of the decision. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of the Vice
President of Student and Academic Services, Director of Institutional Advancement, the Director of Enrollment Managment & Outreach Activities, Coordinator of Scholarships, and the Director of Financial Aid.
All scholarship recipients are selected without discrimination based on age, sex, race or religion.
All scholarships are subject to the availability of funds and are subject to change.
