SCHOLARSHIP POLICY
Unless
the individual scholarship policy states otherwise, and in order for an
academic scholarship recipient to retain any disbursement of his/her award, the
student must maintain all criteria for the scholarship for at least 60% of the
scholarship award period per regular semester (Fall/Spring), and at least 60%
of the scholarship award period for summer terms. Should the student fail to meet
all criteria during this time, the student will be required to repay the
scholarship award prior to the first class day of the next semester. The
student must also satisfactorily complete the minimum number of hours required
by the scholarship program each semester in order to receive the second
disbursement or any remaining scholarship funds for the subsequent semester.
All
scholarship recipients receiving merit-based scholarships through the
A&M-Texarkana Recruitment Office are required to have a permanent social
security number on file in admissions.
All
scholarship recipients awarded through the A&M-Texarkana Recruitment Office
are required to be degree-seeking or certificate seeking and have a degree plan
on file.
Effective
Spring 2009: Out-of-state students, (anyone who is not a Texas resident) who
enroll in web only courses, will not be eligible to receive merit based scholarships
through the A&M-Texarkana Recruitment Office.
Should
the student fail to repay the scholarship award, all university records will be
tagged and the student will be unable to obtain transcripts or register with
A&M-Texarkana until the debt has been paid.
University
academic scholarship recipients may also pursue "need-based" financial aid,
however, the student’s total award may not exceed the student’s “financial
need” as determined by the Federal Need Analysis. In some cases, a student’s
financial aid award must be reduced or cancelled in order for the student to
receive the scholarship.
If
the student receiving the Albert Loftin Scholarship does not enroll at
A&M-Texarkana or does not remain enrolled as a full-time student, the
scholarship becomes an interest-bearing note. The first payment will be due
October 1st, with compound interest accruing at 10% effective
September 1st. The total amount of Loftin Scholarship funds received to date
must then be repaid within twelve (12) months. (EXCEPTION: Student teaching
will be considered as full-time for scholarship purposes only).
Any
student who receives a "renewable" scholarship must re-apply
for the scholarship each year. Scholarship applications are available in January
in the Recruitment Office and must be completed and submitted by the published
deadline. If the recipient fails to meet the minimum scholarship requirements
at any point in time, the scholarship may not be renewed. However, the student
may re-apply for the same scholarship for the next year and will be considered
as all other applicants for the award. Note: Renewable scholarships are contingent
upon the availability of funds for the next award year.
All
academic scholarship recipients are REQUIRED to submit a “letter of
appreciation” to the Recruitment Office with their scholarship award letter. (EXCLUDING
some Institutional Scholarships.)These
letters will then be forwarded to the appropriate donor or club with an
announcement letter of the recipient/s.
A student who wishes to appeal this ruling on the basis of "extenuating
circumstances" must do so in writing to the Recruitment Office. The appeal
decision will be made by the Scholarship Committee, and the student will be
notified of the decision. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of the Vice
President of Student and Academic Services, Director of Institutional
Advancement, the Director of Enrollment Managment & Outreach Activities, Stacey Epps; Coordinator of Scholarships, and Marilyn Raney; the Director of Financial Aid.
All
scholarship recipients are selected without discrimination based on age, sex,
race or religion.
All
scholarships are subject to the availability of funds and are subject to
change.
