SPED 410

This course requires: 2 observations in Special Education public school classes.

Don’t put anything, especially the poster, off until the last minute. Study very hard for tests. (12-2004)

Read the guidelines and rubrics carefully and follow them exactly!

Don’t stress about all of the assignments! Not only are they informative—but they are fun too!” (12-2004)

Be prepared to learn a tremendous amount but be prepared for a lot of work.(12-2004)

This is a wonderful class, and an excellent opportunity to learn. If you apply yourself you will obtain knowledge to really help you as an educator. (12-2004)

SPED 410 was an excellent course. I learned so much …I studied harder in this class than any other but it was worth every minute of it. The content in this class was very informative. Whatever you do, as soon as you get your poster guidelines START THEN!  (12-2004)

About the tests: Try to keep a good notebook. The better organized you stay, the better you will remember the material. (5-2005)

About the tests: Make sure you read the chapters! Chant the information on the disabilities in order to better understand them for the test.(5-2005)

SPED 415

This course requires 18 clock hours of field experience Special Education public school classes.

Do observations (field experience) early so you can enjoy them and not be stressed about having them left to do. (12-2004)

Have plenty of time to do the 12+ hours of observation required. You are in for an incredible and meaningful ride..(12-2004)

My best advice is to go the extra mile and look at all the concepts and programs. This will benefit you in this class and in your future.(12-2004)

Don’t procrastinate on your field experience. I would suggest doing your observations in at least 3 or 4 visits, not 2 like I did. (12-2004)

Have fun, relax, and take everyday one step at a time. (12-2004)

Spend extra time in the classroom during your field experience. It is very rewarding in that you learn more during this time than you could possible imagine. (12-2004)

SPED 417

This course requires testing of students and writing reports.

Look at the protocols first before assessing the student and don’t forget to be professional. (Spring 2005)

Be prepared to spend at least 4 hours to complete scoring and report writing. (Spring 2005)

Read the MANUAL!!! (You’ll understand this [comment] after you start testing.) (Spring 2005)

Get with a group of fellow students and discuss the protocols and assessments for extra help. (Spring 2005)

Line your kids [that you will assess] up as soon as possible. (Spring 2005)

Make sure you don’t miss class on a day when a test is being demonstrated. (Spring 2005)

Keep an open mind, stay organized, take good notes, and make good use of the webct for this course! (Spring 2005)

SPED 520

This course requires the development of a electronic portfolio addressing Technology for Inclusion.

This course involves an extensive knowledge of computers. At the end of the class, I had a valuable product I could use in my job. (Spring 2005)

This class is a great learning experience that you will enjoy. You will break things and discover many things you did not know how to do. (Spring 2005)

Be prepared to learn a lot! Do not get overwhelmed at the beginning of the portfolio. Take each aspect of the portfolio one step at a time and you will take so much knowledge with you when you leave. (Spring 2005)

SPED 549

This course requires testing students and writing reports.

This course is hands-on learning with the goal of learning how to give assessments. My best advice is start early and stay on schedule. (Spring 2005)

Read the manuals and get a study buddy!

Always familiarize yourself with the manual before administering a test. (Spring 2005)

I fell prepared for the diagnostic process because of this class. (Spring 2005)

Pace yourself when giving assessments—choose different age groups to test. It will be beneficial when you are a diagnostician. (Spring 2005)
