Special Education undergraduate
programs are housed within the Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies
degree (BSIS) and include specific Texas teacher certifications. Upon
competition of the program, students take Texas certification examinations for
each certification. Three options are available to undergraduates that prepare
you to teach in general education and special education classrooms.
1. Early Childhood-4th Grade
Certification & Special Education
2. 4-8th Grade Certification & Supplemental
Special Education
3. 8-12th Grade Certification &
Supplemental Special Education
What’s the difference between
Special Education certification and Supplemental Special Education
certification?
Special education certification means that in addition to teaching in general education
settings, you will also be certified to teach in special education classrooms
(resource, self-contained, & inclusive settings) with students with
disabilities in grades EC-12.
Supplemental special education certification means that you will be able to teach in
the general education content area (math, science, history, English, etc.) and
in settings with students with disabilities in grades 4-8 or 8-12 in
their content area.
