The classical argument has seven components:
- Exordium - the attention-getter
- Narratio - the story
- Propositio - the claim
- Partitio - the signpost; the plan for investigating a topic
- Confirmatio - support for the claim
- Confutatio - recognition of the opposition
- Peroratio - conclusion
