Speaker:
Stanley E. Trauth, Ph.D. Title
of Presentation: “Herpetology of the ARK-LA-TEX: A Look at Venomous
Snakes and Other Interesting Amphibians and Reptiles” Time
and Date: 6:30pm Thursday, March 8th, 2001 Location:
Great Room of the Truman Arnold Student Center,
Our speaker, Dr. Stanley E. Trauth of
Arkansas State University, is a well-known herpetologist in the southwest and
very interesting speaker. He is
currently lead author on the upcoming book, “Amphibians and Reptiles of
Arkansas”, published by University of Arkansas Press.
Dr. Trauth has over 30 years of field and laboratory expertise in the
biological sciences. He has
extensive knowledge of venomous snakes of our area, including snakebite
treatment techniques, identification, and their ecology.
In addition to venomous snakes, Dr. Trauth will be speaking on other
interesting amphibians and reptiles. His
talk should be of particular interest to public school science/biology
teachers and those who teach the biological sciences in community colleges as
well as four-year schools. His
talk will help educate the public about how important these animals are to our
ecology and hopefully dispel some myths and unfounded fears about venomous
snakes. He plans to have
some amphibians and reptiles on demonstration for everyone to appreciate and
observe. We
would like to invite all interested local and regional public schools,
community colleges and other interested persons to attend the event.
The event is sponsored by the
Biological Sciences Club of TAMU-T and Texarkana College.
Event organizers: Mr. Mark Storey
(903/838-4541 ext 3298) and
Dr. David
Allard (903/223-3131).
