Program Description

The ETRC provides 25 Texas k-12 science teachers 105 hours of professional development each year.  This includes a strong emphasis on increasing their science content knowledge.  Training on the the latest research-based pedagogical skills as well as ways to incorporate technology into the science classroom is also provided.

The program normally consists of an intensive three-week course during the summer and monthly day long meetings during the academic year.  This usually includes the opportunity to earn six hours of graduate credit each year.

The teachers also receive an opportunity for funding for tuition, fees, books and materials for graduate level courses in science and science education at Texas A&M University-Texarkana.  Additionally they receive materials to use in their classrooms.

The courses teachers take can apply toward a Masters Degree at the University.  Teachers usually select one of three masters programs:  MS in Curriculum and Instruction, MSIS or MS in Education.  Those with alternative certification sometimes pursue a variation of the MS in Education.
