Project 2, SA Store Atmospherics Assessment

Assess the atmospherics of our clients SA retail store.

  • Written consulting report due 25 NOV (100 points)
  • Dress rehearsal on 2 DEC (not graded - feedback only)
  • Formal presentation to Class Client, with written report, on 9 DEC (100 points)

General Issue:

The SA store recently moved and has an opportunity to change the store and to make the store layout into anything that it wants.  Our objectives are:

  • create an atmosphere that is more "upscale" rather than "second hand"
  • create an atmosphere that encourages people to enter the store
  • create an atmosphere that encourages people to browse through the store
  • create an atmosphere that encourages people to return in the future
  • create an atmosphere that encourages purchases (frequency, volume)

Store traffic and sales are not as high as expected, and so you are specifically proposing methods of increasing these.

Your report should be structured roughly as follows:

    You will work in teams of four or five.  The team is of your own choosing.  Note, however, that all members of a team will receive the same score.

    Neatness is considered a minimal requirement in your grade.  Neatness is defined here to include grammar, spelling, typos, correct use of paragraphs, and such.  Problems with these would not be acceptable in "real" in a "real world" and are therefore not acceptable in this assignment;

    Please do not use any kind of report folders.  Just use plain white paper with a single staple in the top left corner.

    You are encouraged to visit the professor outside of class to discuss your ideas.
