Tourism Impact Summary

The local Chamber of Commerce and other parties are interested in the impact of tourism on the local economy.  Two issues are of particular interest:

  1. What is the economic impact in revenues that create jobs?
  2. What is the impact to local government services in tax revenues created by local tourism?

Secondary data that might be useful in answering these questions includes but is not limited to:

Your report to the client must include the following format:

  1. objectives of the (your) report
  2. source of the data used in the (your) report
  3. discussion of the methodology used to collect (the original) data and the methodology used in your own analysis
  4. discussion of the findings
  5. discussion of conclusions that can be drawn from these findings, including a discussion of limitations

The report is limited to two pages of single-spaced text.  However, the report is expected to reference attached appendices which could include summary tables of secondary data and calculations that might be drawn from this data.  Note that the report should only include appendices that are referenced in the text of the report; appendices that are not necessary or are not referenced in the report make it confusing (and earn an associated grade).  Any data that is reproduced or summarized MUST reference the source.

Although this is an individual effort, students are encouraged to collaborate in discussing the issues and conclusions that might be drawn.  That is, the report that you submit must be your own original work as an individual (this is not a team project), but you will probably gain useful insights from discussion with colleagues.
