Course Description:

Social Psychology investigates into how social factors influence the individual's personality, perception, attitudes, and behavior. The course will analyze theories and methods in Social Psychology, and survey the findings on topics such as culture, gender, relationships, aggression, and group behavior.

 

Course Objectives:

Provide a comprehensive introduction to social psychology; recognize the major contributions to the discipline; understand the various theoretical formulations, concepts, terms, and their application; and survey the prevailing research techniques in social psychology.

 

Books and other materials required:

Two books, a text and a reader, will be used in the course. Additional materials include reserve readings and handouts.

 

 Grading:

Attendance and class participation (15% of the course grade)

Exams (60% of the course grade)

            Exam 1 (15%)

            Exam 2 (20%)

Paper (25%)

 

Numerical translation of grade levels:

            A = 90-100                  C = 70-79                    F = <60

            B = 80-89                    D = 60 – 69
