Teacher Preparation Program Undergraduate Admissions

Application to the Teacher Preparation Program and Notice of Intent for Field-Based will be available September 1 to October 1 and February 1 to March 1 though TK20.   Must register for an orientation.

Research recognizes high admission standards as the first step in identifying quality teacher candidates.  The Education Department works together to admit the most qualified students to become the region's next educators.  We feel is our responsibility to identify and prepare students well suited to the profession.

Students who met admission criteria will apply for Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program on the TK20 website ( the first semester of their junior year while taking ED 321 (See Curriculum Maps for sequence of courses for teacher preparation).    *Students not admitted into the Teacher Preparation Program, but have already taken ED 321, should contact a Program Advisor to discuss admission procedures.  Admission materials are due no later than Oct 1/Mar 1 of the semester in which the student is applying:

  1. Application to Teacher Preparation Program ( following directions on TK-20 Quick Guide.
    • Students must demonstrate College Level Skills by passing THEA: Reading, 240, Math, 230, Writing, 220
    • GPA Requirement of 2.80 cumulative
    • 12 SCH from Content Area Seeking Certification (Math and Science certification applicants must have 15 SCH in content area.)
  2. Attend Mandatory Orientation in Oct/Mar following application submission.  See Calendar for specific dates and times. At the orientation students will participate in the following:
    • Writing Sample
    • Oral Interview

Admittance based on criteria listed above.  Writing sample and oral language interview scores based on matrix.  Student will have opportunity to appeal matrix score.
