The mission of the Department of Biology is to provide our students with a broad molecular, organismal and environmental biology skill base that includes the tools that will allow them to succeed in the rapidly evolving field of biology.   Our educational philosophy is based on building the flexibility to deal with emerging challenges, and interdisciplinary collaboration with the related fields such as bioengineering and biotechnology.

Our students will be trained as professional, disciplined, intellectually inquisitive scientists who are able to use rigorous methods to solve new problems and understand the living world.

We seek to prepare our graduates to enter the workforce as professional biology educators, or to enter professional certification programs in healthcare, research and development, and a wide variety of disciplines related to biology.  We will also strive to provide opportunities for students to participate in the process of discovery by conducting original scientific research in a variety of biological fields.
