Taking the TSI

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a Texas requirement for students to show readiness in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. If you haven’t already been exempted through other test scores like ACT, SAT, and STARR, or have previously taken college level courses, then you will need to take the TSI Assessment.  If you have taken dual credit or AP, please reach out to advising@tamut.edu to chat before you test.

Taking the TSI?

Now that you know you need to test; let’s start the process! Every student, prior to testing, needs to complete the PAA, this is a brief presentation with general information about the test.  You will need to enter your information and answer the 10 questions at the end of the slideshow to get credit.  Once you’ve completed the PAA, return to this tab and take the next steps towards scheduling your appointment either online or in-person.

To access the PAA, the student must create an account if one has not been previously created, click CREATE ACCOUNT.  Upon completion of PAA, a certificate will be accessible.

The "Certificate of Completion" will need to be either:

  • printed and brought to the Testing Center or it can be
  • emailed directly to the Testing Center at testingcenter@tamut.edu.
