Pleasant Hill Quilters – Stitching a Legacy

February 14, 2023

11:00 AM - 01:00 PM

Tri-State Iron & Metal Atrium (UC 3rd Floor)

The Pleasant Hill Quilters

The Pleasant Hill Quilters are a group senior women from Linden, Texas who travel the country visiting schools, universities, concert halls and churches across the South to showcase their exquisite quilting patterns and patchwork.  The quilters weave together the African American traditions of quilting with old Negro Spiritual hymns to tell the story of slaves fleeing to freedom on the Underground Railroad.  They tell captivating tales of how runaway slaves and abolitionists used quilting patterns to communicate the safe havens that helped enslaved people escape to freedom before abolishment in 1865.
