Eagle Dance Team

The Eagle Dance Team is in its inaugural year at A&M-Texarkana and, even through the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been fortunate to perform for our campus at basketball games and more.  We have some great opportunities coming up to show off our accomplishments and to facilitate auditions for the 21-22 Season.

The Eagle Dance Team Spring Show is scheduled for Saturday, April 24th in the Patterson Student Center Gym. Our 20-21 Team will showcase their best dances of the year and show off all the exciting routines they learned this season.

The Eagle Dance Team Auditions happen in three easy steps:

  1. Interest Form
    • If you are interested in auditioning for the Eagle Dance Team, please fill out this audition questionnaire.  It is important that you complete this step so that we can allow for ample space for physical distancing at the audition.
  2. The Audition Workshop | Saturday, April 24th | 10am-1pm | Patterson Center Gym
    • This will be an opportunity to dancers to practice skills and learn the audition combo with the Eagle Dance Team Director
  3. Auditions | Sunday, April 25th | 2-5pm | Patterson Center Gym
    • During the auditions, dancers will be broken into groups to perform the audition combo along with demonstrate skills for a panel of judges.

Below are some FAQ's for the Eagle Dance Team.  Any other questions should be directed to cmcniel@tamut.edu.

Q: Where will the Eagle Dance Team perform?

A:  The Eagle Dance Team will perform at special campus events, all home basketball games, select soccer and baseball games, and hopefully have the ability to participate in competitions.

Q: Can I try out for the Eagle Dance Team?

A: Auditions are open to any current or incoming students.

Q: What should I wear to tryouts?

A: Women should wear black leggings, a form fitted tank top, and dance shoes (jazz shoes are fine).  Hair should be down and styled nicely.  Men should wear black pants, tank top, and dance shoes (jazz shoes are fine).  All participants will need to wear a face covering.

Q: Is formal dance training required?

A:  No.  There will be some minimum expected skills that dancers will be able to do but we will work on those skills during the tryout workshop on Saturday, April 24th.  Anyone who has a love of dance and performance should at least come and try.

Q: How much of a time commitment is the Eagle Dance Team?

A: The Eagle Dance Team practices at least twice per week in addition to performances.  We do our best to meet everyone's scheduling needs but the ability to attend practices and performances as much as possible is important for the success of the team as a whole.

Q: What styles of dance will we perform?

A:  We expect to perform jazz, hip hop, and pom routines.

Q: Will it cost money to be on the dance team?

A: There will be some expenses for the dancer which we will go over at the audition workshop.  The University will fund uniforms, poms, and most of the competition fees.  Dancers will be expected to purchase tights, shoes, and their practice gear which they will be able to keep.

Q: What are the requirements to be on the Eagle Dance Team?

A:  It is expected that our dancers are enrolled as full-time students (at least 12 hours for undergraduates and 6 hours for graduate students), they will be expected to have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and be in good standing with the University, and all dancers will have to participate in the scheduled tryout and be selected.
