The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BS-CJ) is a 120 credit hour curriculum designed as a "2+2" program.  Students may start as freshmen or they may begin their college experience in virtually any degree program at A&M-Texarkana or at a community college before majoring in criminal justice at A&M-Texarkana to complete their 4-year degree.  Transfer students usually complete an Associates degree before transfer, others begin taking upper division courses before completion of the AS, and yet others simply take required lower level courses at the community college without completing their AS degree.  Full-time students with 60 hours creditable toward the degree can complete the degree in two years or less taking a mix of day, night, and online classes.

The BS-CJ is oriented to pre-service and in-service criminal justice employees, particularly those who wish to be promoted to supervisory and management roles, employed in state and federal agencies, or attend graduate school.  Graduates of the program work at local, state, and federal agencies.  Other students who commonly seek the BS-CJ are those with career interests in social service and rehabilitation organizations that are commonly adjuncts to the criminal justice system.  Based on individual student interests and goals, faculty will help students customize their degree plan based on interests in management, human behavior, forensic science, social work, liberal arts, or other areas.

Minor in Criminal Justice

Students who are interested in criminal justice but who plan to get a bachelors degree in a different field should consider completing the Minor in Criminal Justice.  The CJ Minor is designed to give students a serious overview of the criminal justice/criminology field without completing the entire major.  It is an excellent choice for students whose career will be in areas of government, education, social services, the law, or others that are in contact with the criminal justice system.  Students who plan to work in an area unrelated to criminal justice but who wish to spice up their college years and broaden their academic horizons with a fascinating field of study are also perfect candidates for the Minor.
