Shared Governance Committees

Strategic Planning Committee:

This committee is responsible for oversight, alignment and recommendations to the faculty and the dean of all aspects of the strategic plan including timetables, champions (personnel responsible), and alignment to the mission, vision and values of the college.  This also includes developing expected outcomes and measuring results relevant to those outcomes.  The impact of the work of this committee is necessary to the existence of the quality practices of the college and all stakeholders depend on their work.  The innovation driven in this committee is easily seen in how they allocate the college’s scarce financial resources to fund the various initiatives of the college.

Assurance of Learning (AOL) Committee:

This committee has responsibility for engaging all faculty in the development and maintenance of course maps which document the relationship between the student Learning Objectives (LO’s) for individual courses in the curriculum and the program LO’s for the College of Business, Engineering and Technology.  The AOL committee is responsible for establishing timelines, measuring outcomes, and monitoring continuous improvement activities.  They are responsible for engaging the entire faculty in these responsibilities.  Their impact is foundational for the quality program in the CBET and affects all stakeholders in the college.  The innovation occurring from this committee can be seen in the experiments that occur in the faculty attempts to improve student performance on various LO’s being measured.

Curriculum Committee:

This committee is responsible for encouraging the faculty to suggest and develop course and curriculum improvements.  The committee reviews these suggestions, and then, depending on the magnitude of the change, bringing an improvement or an innovation forward to the whole faculty for a faculty discussion and a subsequent full faculty vote.  The committee is responsible for encouraging innovative thinking from the faculty and engaging the faculty in the process.   The committee also leads the involvement of industry partners in soliciting their input identifying important student skills which would facilitate student hiring.  The impact of these decisions directly affects the quality improvements in the curriculum and affects the quality of the education being received by the students.

All three committees are essential for the College of Business, Engineering and Technology at Texas A&M University–Texarkana in delivering a fully developed quality process complete innovative thinking that impacts all stakeholders of the college including students, faculty, staff, administration, and industry partners.  The process of utilizing all three of these major committees in a cooperative effort, working together forming a community of learning engages all faculty members, and impacts all stakeholders of the college.  The committees work together to stimulate innovative thinking and the impact is a cohesive and effective quality process for the college.
