THEA iBT

The Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA) in accordance with Texas Administration Code (TAC) Title 19 Part 7 Chapter 227.10, undergraduate students who aspire to become elementary, middle, secondary, or all-levels teachers in Texas must meet the minimum requirements for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program (TPP). All students must take all three sections of the THEA iBT exam as part of the admission requirements to Teacher Education. To be admitted into the Teacher Education program, each student is required to meet the minimum passing scores on the THEA iBT test.

240 = Reading

230* = Mathematics

220 = Writing

* Students who are unsuccessful on the math section of the above tests may satisfy the math requirement by a grade of B or above in College Algebra or a higher level math course (Math 1350 and/or Math 1351 may not be used to meet this requirement).

The THEA consists of three sections:

• Reading: 40 multiple-choice questions matched to about seven reading selections of 300 to 750 words each.
• Mathematics: 50 multiple-choice questions covering four general areas: fundamental mathematics, algebra, geometry, and problem solving. (Note that an on-screen calculator will be available for your use during the Mathematics Section.)
• Writing: Contains two subsections: a writing sample subsection requiring students to demonstrate their ability to communicate effectively in writing on a given topic and a multiple-choice subsection including approximately 40 questions assessing students' ability to recognize various elements of effective writing.

Fees

• $29.00 - the THEA iBT exam payment must be made Online by creating an account via THEA Portal prior to your scheduled test date. IMPORTANT: Print out confirmation receipt and bring a copy with you on exam day to access the exam. 
• $20.00 - Administrative Fee.  Fee may be Paid  Online by clicking Pay Online and clicking appropriate icon, Cash, Personal Check or Money Order payable to TAMUT or A&M-Texarkana.
• $5.00 - assessed upon your 2^nd reschedule request.

What to Bring to the Testing Center

	If you have paid by credit card, bring your confirmation e-mail as proof of payment.
	If your account was created prior to your test date, make sure you know the e-mail address and password that are associated with your account. You will not be able to test without this information!
	Several sharpened No. 2 pencils with erasers (no pens or mechanical pencils); pencils will not be supplied at the test center
	Two pieces of identification, one with a recent photograph, as described in "Identification Policy" below

Notepaper will be provided for you to use during testing; however, no other notepaper or note-taking devices may be used during the test.

An onscreen calculator will be available for the Math Section of the test; NO OTHER CALCULATORS are permitted.

Identification Policy

In order to take the THEA IBT, you must bring two forms of personal identification, one of which is photographic identification, to the test center. Examples of photographic identification include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Valid driver's license
• Valid passport
• Student identification card
• Military identification card
• Current alien registration card
• Department of Public Safety card
• Matricula Consular

Acceptable forms of non-photographic identification include, but are not limited to, the following: pay stub, insurance card, social security card, valid credit card, yearbook, description of the examinee written on high school or college stationery and signed by an official of that institution.

All forms of identification must be originals. Photocopies will not be accepted. If you do not have photographic identification, you may not be admitted to the test center.

If you are refused admission because you do not provide proper identification, you will be considered absent and will receive no refund or credit of any kind. You may reschedule your test appointment at the test center's convenience.

If the name on your identification differs from the name in which you are registering, you must bring official, original verification of the change (e.g., original marriage certificate, original court order).
