Education
Four Texas A&M University-Texarkana alumni are current members of the East Texas Teachers Association executive board. Pictured are Marketing Coordinator Jennifer Lancaster (M.S. 2012), President Brooke Ferguson (B.S. 2011), Vice-President Jenny Walker (M.Ed 2012), and Curriculum Director Sheri Taylor (B.S. 1993). The group recently hosted the 2019 Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers conference (ECET2) on the TAMUT campus, where more than 200 teachers and future teachers were encouraged to engage in problem solving and leadership activities through colleague circles. They also participated in workshops geared toward curriculum and assessment, diversity, classroom management, and relationship-building. The ECET2 conference was funded in part by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This was the third year for the East Texas Teachers Association to receive the grant, and they were the only association in Texas to receive the grant in 2018 and 2019. This is the last year the grant is available, but the group hopes to be able to raise enough money to continue the annual conference.
