Young Writers Workshop

Young Writers Workshop

Each summer, the East Texas Writing Project and English Program at Texas A&M University – Texarkana, along with generous support from community and regional organizations, sponsor the Young Writers’ Workshop, a program open to incoming 1st to 12th grade students from across the region.

YWW participants spend their time engaged in reading, writing, and artistic activities designed to develop and deepen their understanding of genres and themes often left underexplored in traditional classrooms. In previous summers, participants have explored genres including myths, fairy tales, travel memoirs, adventure writing, proposals, poetry, one-day plays, character sketches, short fiction, and graphic novels.

By the end of the program, our young writers have much to show from their efforts, products they showcase in our final Closing Ceremony open to parents, family, and campus and community friends.

Students then have the opportunity to publish their best work in the program’s annual anthology.

The Young Writers’ Workshop is grateful to its sponsors for making this vital community literacy project a continued success.
