Housing Requirements

Exemptions

A&M-Texarkana campus has a one-year live on requirement for new first time in college students.  Once you have lived in BLV for one year, you are not required to live on campus any longer. All exemptions to the University housing requirement must be documented and approved by the Office of Residence Life. Students who live within 45 miles of campus are exempt from living in Bringle Lake Village. Exemption forms for students who do not meet either of these requirements are available below.

Off-Campus Housing Exemption forms, and Meal Plan Exemption forms, are due:

  • Fall semester by July 1
  • November 1 each year

Any submitted after this date may not be reviewed due to time constraints of the Exemption Committee. All submitted forms will be sent to the Exemption Committee and will have an answer back to the student via AceMail by August 1st (Fall Semester) and December 15th (Spring Semester). It is advised that applicants submit a one-page letter to the committee explaining their reasoning for an exemption and any documentation to support the exemption, including but not limited to: medical statements, financial statements (without personal and account information listed), letters from current supervisors, etc. Any questions can be directed to the Residence Life Coordinator at housing@tamut.edu

IMPORTANT NOTE:
*Students should not make arrangements to live off campus until approved by the Office of Residence Life.  Exemption processing takes a minimum of two (2) weeks, assuming adequate information is submitted. Students who are in a current housing contract, and choose to break the contract prior to completion, may be charged a fee up to 10% of the contract.

*Students living off campus, without an approved exemption, will be held responsible for room and board charges.
