International Admission Requirements

Freshman are required to satisfy the English language proficiency requirement and meet one of the following to be admitted to the university:

  • Have a minimum PTE Score of 50, or
  • Have a composite ACT score of 21 or better
  • Have a minimum combined SAT (prior to March 2016) of 980
  • Have a minimum combined SAT (March 2016 or later) of 1060
  • Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 GPA Scale


 Transfer students are required to satisfy the English language proficiency requirement and the following:

  • any post secondary transferable credit in a full term (Fall or Spring) after high school completion.  If a student only attends the summer term immediately following high school completion they will still be considered a freshman and;
  • 2.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher

Graduate students will need to contact the program coordinator of the program they are applying to for admission criteria.

Proof of Language Proficiency

International applicants must be adequately proficient in English to pursue a course of study at the university. The following satisfy the university’s language proficiency requirement:

  • A minimum TOEFL score of 71 iBT, or
  • A minimum SAT Critical Reading (Verbal) score of 500 -testing prior to March 2016, or
  • A minimum SAT Reading Score of 27 - testing on or after March 1, 2016, or
  • A minimum ACT English score of 19, or
  • A minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall band, or
  • A minimum https://englishtest.duolingo.com/ score of 105, or
  • Must have completed Eng 1301 and Eng 1302 , at a U.S. institution, with a grade of “C” or better, or
  • Must have completed all four years in a high school within the U.S., or
  • Transferred in with at least 48 credit hours from an English speaking country/program or
  • Are a citizen of American Samoa, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, Federated States of Micronesia, Gambia, Ghana, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad/Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom

Test

Submit ACT/SAT Scores (Optional for students admitted with at least 2.75 high school GPA or 2.0 transfer GPA)

Credit Evaluation

Official transcripts can be sent directly to admissions@tamut.edu for evaluation. Transcripts must come directly from school/university/college. Transcripts or evaluations sent directly from the student will not be accepted. Third party evaluation are accepted from NACES or AICES members.

Global Heritage & International Scholarships

The Global Heritage Scholarship at Texas A&M University-Texarkana celebrates cultural diversity and the expansion of global mindsets. International students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. International recipients will receive some financial assistance and will have their non-resident tuition replaced with the more affordable resident tuition. Overall, this scholarship can save an international student up to $16,000 per academic year.

Fully admitted new degree-seeking undergraduate international students with an incoming GPA of at least a 3.0 are eligible to apply. The priority deadline to be considered for the Global Heritage Scholarship-Spring 2024 semester is Friday, October 13, 2023. Scholarship applications will be reviewed, and selections will be announced the week of October 23rd.
