Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Jim Worthen is the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Experimental Psychology from Texas Tech University and a B.A. in Psychology from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). Over the course of his academic career, he has served in a variety of leadership roles including Graduate Program Coordinator, Associate Dean, and Dean.
Dr. Worthen has held faculty and administrative positions at Michigan Technological University, the University of Texas at Brownsville, and Southeastern Louisiana University. Among his achievements are establishing the first psychology lab at UT Brownsville, expanding Southeastern’s graduate psychology program by 60%, and implementing a cost-saving academic restructuring plan at SLU. At TAMUT, he co-led the development of a new strategic plan, mission, and vision.
Outside of academia, Dr. Worthen is a former musician and an occasional hunting guide and tracker. He is married to Beth Worthen, and they have a son, Bryan. The family also includes a Blue Lacy dog named Daryl.
