Biography
Dr. Sukrutha Vangipuram is an Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET) at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. She teaches courses in computer science and information systems, with a focus on cybersecurity, digital forensics, mobile application development, and data-driven systems. Her research interests include cloud computing, blockchain applications in healthcare, artificial intelligence, and smart agriculture. Dr. Vangipuram has received Best Paper Awards at IEEE-ISES and IEEE-OCIT conferences, and her work “CoviChain” was recognized by the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 literature database.
Professional Experience
Dr. Sukrutha Vangipuram has held several academic positions throughout her career. She began as a Teaching Assistant at Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, India (2007–2009), and later served as an Assistant Professor and Academic Administrator at Methodist College of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, India (2012–2015). From 2020 to 2024, she worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of North Texas, Denton, USA. In early 2024, she joined Texas A&M University–Texarkana as an Adjunct Instructor before being appointed Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) of Management Information Systems, where she currently teaches and conducts research.
Education
Dr. Sukrutha Vangipuram completed her Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, USA in 2024. She earned her Master of Technology (M.Tech) in Computer Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, India in 2012, and her Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Information Technology from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 2007.
Teaching
I teach courses in Network Security and Policy, Digital Forensics and Design, Computer Security with CISSP, Mobile Application Development, Computer Networks, Database Management Systems (DBMS), Data Structures using C++, and Data Mining using AI and ML. My most interesting classes include Mobile Application Development, DBMS, and Data Mining, as they allow students to work hands-on with industry-relevant tools. For DBMS, I ask students to install SQL Server, which can be challenging on their own systems, but provides valuable practical experience. Similarly, in Data Mining, I introduce students to Weka, helping them explore data analysis and machine learning tools in a hands-on way. I enjoy guiding students through these installations and exercises, making the learning process both fun and educational.
Scholarship & Creative Activity
My most recent work, IncentiveChain, focuses on efficient power and water usage in smart farming through a blockchain-based cryptocurrency reward system. The system distributes crypto-ether directly to farmers, incentivizing responsible resource management while eliminating third-party banking vulnerabilities and ensuring data integrity. IncentiveChain uses a distributed architecture with edge points and collaboration with national agricultural departments and utility companies to make the system practical and secure. This work was published in the journal MDPI Information as part of the Special Issue on Information Systems and Technologies: Foundations, Techniques, and Applications.
