A&M-Texarkana and Texarkana Chamber of Commerce Join Forces to Boost Workforce Readiness

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana and the Texarkana, USA Chamber of Commerce have announced a new collaboration between the two institutions designed to bolster workforce readiness in the Texarkana community. This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in the journey toward Texarkana's recognition as an ACT Work Ready Community.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed between the university and the Chamber of Commerce signifies a shared commitment to implement the ACT WorkKeys program, a renowned initiative designed to equip individuals with essential workplace skills. The Chamber of Commerce received a grant from the TLL Temple Foundation allowing the purchase of the ACT WorkKeys Curriculum that will be shared with the university.

Dr. Brian Matthews, Associate Professor of Management at A&M-Texarkana, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership stating, "The integration of ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate will allow A&M-Texarkana students to develop essential, foundational skills necessary to compete in today’s rapidly changing workplace.”

Camille Powell, Program Manager for Workforce Development at the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce added, “We are excited to add Texas A&M University-Texarkana to our current workforce initiative through the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce. The National Career Readiness Certificate is a pathway for students to showcase their skills by aligning academic achievement with real-world readiness. Through our partnership with the university, we can bridge the gap between education and industry, shaping a workforce that excels in the face of diverse challenges.”

This new collaboration underscores Texas A&M University-Texarkana’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and student success. Together with the Chamber of Commerce, A&M-Texarkana will continue to have a profound impact on workforce development and economic growth across the Texarkana region.
