Enrollment Soars at Texas A&M University-Texarkana
TEXARKANA, Texas – For the second consecutive year Texas A&M University-Texarkana has shattered enrollment records as the University has firmly established itself as one of the fastest growing institutions in the nation. Looking at the two-year comparison from the Fall 2023 semester to the current Fall 2025 term, the university boasts a remarkable 40% increase in enrollment. Not only are there more students, but the students are taking substantially more classes than they did previously. A comparison of Semester Credit Hours (SCH) shows an increase of 50% during the same period. “If there is a more rapidly growing university in America, I do not know about it,” said University President Dr. Ross Alexander.
“Our astronomical enrollment increases are the direct result of an intentional and innovative strategy that resonates with students of all ages, types, and backgrounds,” Alexander said. “A&M-Texarkana has established itself as a first-choice university for multiple constituencies of learners throughout all life stages."
Texas A&M University-Texarkana has shown dramatic increases in virtually every measurable enrollment metric. In addition to the enrollment and SCH increases the university also boasts increases in

A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander believes there are several factors driving the university’s growth. “Texas A&M University-Texarkana provides an exceptional value for today’s students,” Alexander said. “We have dozens of highly sought after degree programs that lead directly to high-paying jobs. When you combine our academic offerings with a best-in-class scholarship program, our graduates have a direct pathway to a successful career while keeping costs manageable.”
It's not just the quantity of students enrolling that’s increasing, but the quality of students as well. “We are recruiting a much higher caliber of student,” said Venus Lillis, A&M-Texarkana Vice President of Enrollment. “We have seen tremendous increases in the number of students who were in the top 10% of their high school class, as well as a greater number of valedictorians and salutatorians.”
Makayla Clark, A&M-Texarkana Freshman and valedictorian from James Bowie High School in Simms, TX chose A&M-Texarkana because of its affordability and because of the University’s strong nursing program. “I knew TAMUT had a very strong nursing program,” said Clark. “I want to eventually work in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and this program can help me achieve that goal.”
Shelton Wooley, another freshman and former valedictorian from Detroit, TX, chose A&M-Texarkana for its academic programming as well. Wooley is also a nursing major, but after completing his undergraduate studies plans to enroll in TAMUT’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. “One of the things that I’ve noticed from the beginning is how easy it is to work with my professors and advisors. Right from the start I can tell that everyone is focused on setting me up for success.”
“This really is only the beginning,” added Lillis. “Our enrollment momentum is setting the stage for an even stronger future at A&M–Texarkana—where growth means more lives changed and more opportunities expanded across our region.”
