A&M-Texarkana Introduces Joshua Eargle as University’s First Football Coach

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana held a press conference on January 9, 2026, to formally introduce Head Football Coach Joshua Eargle, who was chosen by the University to be the first football coach in A&M-Texarkana history. Numerous media outlets as well as many faculty, staff, students, and community members were present for the introduction and to hear Coach Eargle’s vision for Eagles football.

“We were thrilled to see such a great turnout for Coach Eargle’s introduction today,” said A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. “The entire community is excited about college football at A&M-Texarkana. Coach has a passion for the game of football, but more importantly has a passion for shaping the lives of student-athletes and helping them prepare for life after college athletics. His commitment to excellence on the playing field, in the classroom, and in life make him the perfect choice to launch what we believe will be a highly successful football program.”

During his time at the podium, Eargle talked at length about building a winning culture, both on and off the playing field. “We’re going to build a monster here,” said Eargle. “Built on team and built on young men’s futures. We’re going to offer them an elite education in an outstanding academic environment. And we’re going to use that ‘burning in the pit of their stomach’ for football to be great on that turf. To play fast and with passion. Not to play for themselves, but to play for the man next to them.”

Already working hard to secure commitments ahead of the February 4, 2026, National Signing Day, Eargle has been watching film and speaking on the phone with the young men who will make up the University’s first football team.

Eargle shared that every day he speaks with potential student athletes who are excited about the possibility of playing football at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. “They are fired up,” said Eargle. “These East Texas boys are revved and ready to go. I promise you, these Eagles will rise fast, and these Eagles will soar high.”

The first Eagles football players are expected to arrive on campus in the fall of 2026. Moving forward, the team will go through a typical spring camp and spring game in 2027 in preparation for the first season of competition in the fall of 2027.

A 2001 graduate of The University of Memphis, Eargle received the school’s inaugural Top Tiger Award, presented to a student-athlete who overcame adversity to return to competition. He earned his master’s degree in sports administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2004. His wife, Kristen, is the founder and host of the national podcast Coach’s Wife Life.

Eargle and his wife, Kristen, have three children: Kourtney, Landrey, and Stallings.
