A&M-Texarkana Receives Rare “No Recommendations” Finding During Recent Site Visit for Accreditation Reaffirmation
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana recently completed the on-site evaluation process for reaffirmation of accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and received a finding of “no recommendations” from the Reaffirmation Committee. The no recommendations finding is a rare occurrence and a distinguished confirmation that A&M-Texarkana adheres to the premier standards in higher education. Most universities receiving between two and ten recommendations for improvement during the reaffirmation process, which occurs every ten years for colleges and universities.
SACSCOC is an institutional accreditor for quality assurance in higher education. SACSCOC accredits institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees, including those offered via distance and correspondence education, and direct assessment within these institutions. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among its members in the United States and international institutions of higher education approved by the SACSCOC Executive Council, Board of Trustees, and the Appeals Committee of the College Delegate Assembly.
SACSCOC has six core values that guide its service to members and the public: integrity, continuous quality improvement, peer review/self-regulation, accountability, student learning, and transparency.
"To receive a "no recommendations" conclusion from the SACSCOC committee that visited campus over the past few days is deeply pleasing and reflective of the great work being done by so many committed faculty and staff at A&M-Texarkana,” said A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. “The university is surely headed in the right direction, as evidenced by this relatively rare set of findings from our SACSCOC visitors."
“The SACSCOC onsite visit was an unequivocal success,” said Dr. Jim Worthen, A&M-Texarkana Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “As a result of the hard work of our campus community spearheaded by our accreditation team (Dr. Sushil Sharma, Karen Mongo, Dr. Jennifer Willis, and Deann Norton), our university accreditation will be reaffirmed without issue. This is another example of the upward trajectory of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.”
Accreditation by SACSCOC signifies that the institution (1) has a mission appropriate to higher education, (2) has resources, programs, and services sufficient to accomplish and sustain that mission, and (3) maintains clearly specified educational objectives that are consistent with its mission and appropriate to the degrees it offers, and that indicate whether it is successful in achieving its stated objectives.
