A&M-Texarkana to Host 36th Young Writers’ Workshop

TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana, in conjunction with the East Texas Writing Project, will present the 36th Annual Young Writers’ Workshop (YWW) on the A&M-Texarkana campus July 6-10, 2026. The workshop will take place in the Anita and Truman Arnold University Center building from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The cost of the program is $55 per student, and scholarships are available on a limited basis. The workshop is open to students ages six and older who are entering the first through the twelfth grade.

The YWW is a week-long program for children to explore different genres of literature that culminates with the production of their own literary masterpiece that they present to the campus, friends, and family during the closing ceremony. The program is led by Dr. Bill Lancaster, A&M-Texarkana Instructor of Composition, as well as A&M-Texarkana English faculty and staff. Participants in this year’s workshop will explore various topics such as “Places and Spaces,” “Instigations and Investigations,” and “Heroines and Heroes.”

“At a time when reading and writing are tied directly to testing in the schools, the Young Writers' Workshop seeks to lighten the mood, wherein our students can expand their creative sides and enjoy the fun side of reading and writing,” said Dr. Lancaster, who is in his third year leading the annual event.

Parents and guardians can register their young writers and find additional details at the A&M Texarkana Young Writers' Workshop site. Questions can be addressed to the program director, Dr. Bill Lancaster, at  blancaster@tamut.edu.
