Bennie Walthall Awards

Each year the History department holds the Bennie Walthall Award ceremony, which awards students for the best papers written in undergraduate and graduate History courses. Dr. Bennie Walthall, an alum of the History department, endowed the awards with the intention of highlighting and promoting exemplary research into historical topics. Winners have tackled topics including the role of constructed identity to medieval knights, the influence of King Phillip's War upon American-Indian Slavery in Colonial America, and a historiographical examination of how the Reconstruction Period has been presented by historians.
